Preparation:

( NEW OR UNPAINTED CONCRETE ) - Make sure that concrete is sound and not crumbling, All contaminants, including, but not limited to: dirt, oil, grease, mold and mildew must be removed from the surface and pores of the concrete to insure that the paint has good contact with the concrete. Remove contaminants with strong detergent, TSP, or degreasers and rinse thoroughly . Kill all algae, mold and mildew with bleach and rinse thoroughly. It is often advisable to pressure wash the surface to insure the complete removal of contaminants. Slick or smoothly trowelled surfaces must be etched with a 10% muriatic acid solution until the pores of the concrete are opened up to a sandpaper like ( 120-220 ) grit texture. All acid must be completely rinsed off before application. Make certain that the floor is free of all silicate sealers, and curing compounds as these would have to be removed with acid before application of coating.

( OVER OLD PAINT ) - May be applied over most paints if they are firmly bonded to the surface. Make sure that the surface is free of all contaminants ( follow cleaning instructions for bare concrete ). TUF-TOP WC may not adhere satisfactorily to some epoxies, alkyds, polyurethanes, and silicate sealers. If uncertain, apply a small test patch of TT-WC and check adhesion with duct tape after 2-3 days. Press tape down firmly onto test patch and pull up sharply. If paint pulls from the surface, there is an adhesion problem and TUF-TOP WC should not be used.

Application:

NEW OR UNPAINTED CONCRETE - Apply with roller, brush, or airless sprayer. TREAT ALL TRAFFIC BEARING SURFACES WITH PSC PRIMER SEALER. One coat of PSC primer sealer will penetrate into the concrete and establish a good bond with the concrete. For most applications, two top coats are preferred. Apply the first coat, allow to dry ( 2-4 hours depending on weather ), and then apply the second coat. If not priming with TUF-TOP PSC, thin the first coat with one pint of water per gallon to assist in penetration. Allow new concrete to cure for 2-4 months before painting. If initially primed with PSC, most new concrete may be coated in as little as 2-4 weeks.

( OVER OLD PAINT )- Apply with roller, brush, or airless sprayer. Two coats are recommended.

Limitations:
  • Do not apply when air or surface temperatures are below 50 degrees Fahrenheit or are expected to fall there before coating can dry.
  • DO NOT APPLY when air or surface temperatures exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit or lap marking may occur.
  • DO NOT APPLY to wet or damp surfaces.
  • DO NOT APPLY when it may rain, or if dew may condense on the surface before the paint will have a chance to dry
  • Allow for slow drying during high humidity.
  • DO NOT ALLOW product to freeze. Store above 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Resistant to oil/grease and most dilute household and pool chemicals, however, gasoline will soften the coating. If gasoline is spilled on the surface, allow it evaporate rather than wiping it up. As the gasoline evaporates the coating will recover and harden.
  • NOT FOR USE on below grade or in areas subject to high electrostatic pressure.
  • NOT FOR USE ON STAMPED CONCRETE.
Drying Time:

Apply first coat, allow to dry ( 2-4 hours ) depending on weather, then apply second coat.

Normally dries in 2-4 hours and can be walked on after drying overnight at 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Forty- eight hours are generally required before driving vehicles on to surface. Low temperatures and high humidity can extend drying and curing time. Moisture and dew on the surface will halt the curing process until the surface dries again and should be taken into consideration.
