Safe Quartz-E Flooring System

WATER BASED 2 COMPONENT EPOXY HYBRID SEAMLESS COLORED QUARTZ FLOORING SYSTEM

A test patch is recommended to check for compatibility.

TUF-TOP SAFE QUARTZ -E is a very durable, chemical resistant 2 component Poly Amide Hybrid Epoxy Quartz coating for use on concrete and masonry floors & walls as well as metal. SAFE QUARTZ-E combines the durability of solvent based epoxies with the ease and safety of water- based paints. SAFE QUARTZ-E provides a durable easily maintained surface that gives a dramatic impression of color to reception areas, offices, hotel guest areas, any anywhere else a bold statement of color is needed.

Features:
  • WITHSTANDS MOST COMMON CHEMICALS
  • WATER REDUCIBLE/WATER CLEANUP
  • EXCELLENT DURABILITY & CLEANABILITY
Preparation:

NEW OR UNPAINTED CONCRETE - Make sure concrete is sound and not crumbling. Dirt, oil, grease, mold and mildew, and any other contaminants must be removed from the surface and pores of the concrete to insure that the paint has good contact with the concrete. Remove oil, grease, chalk, and any other contaminants from the surface with TSP, or degreasers and rinse thoroughly. Kill all algae, mildew and mold with bleach and rinse thorough. It is often advisable to pressure wash the surface to insure complete removal of the contaminants. Slick or smoothly trowelled bare masonry surfaces must be etched with a 10 % muriatic acid solution until the concrete pore are opened up and a sandpaper like texture ( 220 grit ) is achieved. Acid must be thoroughly washed off the surface after application. Be certain that there are no silicone/silicate type sealers or water repellents on the floor as they would have to be removed with acid or other means before application.

OVER OLD PAINT - SAFE QUARTZ-E may be applied over most paints if they are firmly bonded to the surface. A test patch and adhesion test are recommended to insure compatibility. Old coatings should be abraded with 120-220 grit sandpaper to provide a tooth for adhesion. Make sure the surface is free of contaminants ( follow cleaning instructions for new concrete ) DO NOT ACID ETCH OVER OLD COATINGS! SAFE QUARTZ-E may not adhere satisfactorily to some epoxies, polyurethanes, and silicate sealers. If uncertain, apply a test patch and check adhesion with duct tape after 2-3 days. Press tape down firmly on test patch and pull up sharply. If the paint pulls from the surface there is an adhesion problem and SAFE QUARTZ -E should not be used.

Application:

OVER OLD PAINT - Old coatings must be sound and firmly adhered. Old coatings should be abraded with 120-220 grit sandpaper to provide a tooth for adhesion. Apply as above. SAFE QUARTZ-E may not adhere satisfactorily to some epoxies, polyurethanes, and silicate sealers. If uncertain, apply a test patch of SAFE QUARTZ -E and check adhesion with duct tape/scraper after 2-3 days. Press tape down firmly on test patch and pull up sharply. If the paint pulls from the surface , there is an adhesion problem and SAFE QUARTZ-E should not be used.

OVER NEW/BARE CONCRETE - Mix both components of SAFE QUARTZ-E well prior to use, mix only enough product that can be applied in two hours. Apply with pool trowel, EIFS Plastic trowel or Hopper gun to a wet thickness of approximately 1/8" inch. Allow new concrete to cure for a minimum of 30 days prior to painting, all curing compounds and for oils must be removed to insure adhesion. Second or additional coats must be applied within 36 hours of the of the previous coat, or sanding,/abrading will be needed to achieve adhesion after 36 hours.

Limitations:
  • DO NOT APPLY when air or surface temperatures are below 50 degrees Fahrenheit or are expected to fall there before the coating can dry.
  • DO NOT APPLY when air or surface temperatures exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit or lap marking/poor spreadability may occur.
  • DO NOT APPLY to wet or damp surfaces.
  • DO NOT APPLY when it may rain or if dew may condense on the surface before paint will have a chance to dry.
  • ALLOW FOR SLOW DRYING during high humidity.
  • DO NOT ALLOW TO FREEZE. Store above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. ( 0 C )
  • RESISTANT TO gasoline, oil, grease, and most chemicals. Brake fluid must be wiped from the surface as soon as possible as it may soften the film temporarily.
  • NOT RECOMMENDED FOR EXTERIOR USE., OR IN AREAS THAT RECEIVE FULL SUN. CHALKING MAY RESULT.
Drying Time:

Normally dries in 24 hours and can be walked upon after drying overnight 75 degrees Fahrenheit. 72 hours are generally required before driving vehicles on. Maximum cure will be achieved in 5-7 days. Low temperatures and high humidity can extend drying and curing time. Moisture and dew on the surface will halt the curing until it dries off again and should be taken into consideration.
