Safe Quartz Coating

WATER BASED SKID RESISTANT TEXTURED COLOR QUARTZ COATING

A test patch is recommended to check for compatibility.

TUF-TOP SAFE-QUARTZ SKID RESISTANT TEXTURED COATING is a blend or Acrylic Polymers, and colored quartz silica aggregate. Slippery, old, stained, dirty surfaces are easily transformed into very attractive, safe, slip resistant, sure-footed areas with TUF-TOP SAFE-QUARTZ. Florida formulated to be resistant to ultraviolet rays, pool chemicals, oil, grease and driving rains. Use on concrete, masonry, asphalt, wood*, and styrofoam/Dryvit systems.

Features:
  • SKID RESISTANT SAFETY FINISH
  • WATER BASED & WATER CLEAN UP
  • WATER/ACID/ALKALAI RESISTANT
  • EXCELLENT EXTERIOR DURABILITY
Preparation:

NEW OR UNPAINTED CONCRETE - Make sure the concrete is sound and not crumbling. Dirt, oil, grease, and any other contaminants must be thoroughly removed from the surface and the pores of the concrete to insure that the paint has good contact with the substrate. Remove oil, grease, chalk, and any other contaminants with strong detergent, TSP, or degreasers and rinse thoroughly. It is often advisable to pressure wash the surface to insure complete removal of these contaminants. Slick or smoothly trowelled surfaces must be etched with a 10 % muriatic acid solution until the concrete pores are opened up and a sandpaper like ( 120-20 grit ) texture is given to the concrete. Acid must be thoroughly washed off after application. Be certain that there are no silicone/silicate type sealers or water repellents on the floor - as they would have to be removed with acid or by other means before application.

OVER OLD PAINT - TUF-TOP SAFE QUARTZ may be applied over most old paints if they are firmly bonded to the surface. Make sure they are free from any contaminants ( follow cleaning instructions for new concrete ). TUF-TOP SAFE QUARTZ may not adhere satisfactorily to some epoxies, polyurethanes, and silicate sealers. If uncertain, apply a test patch of SAFE QUARTZ and check adhesion with duct tape or scraper after 2-3 days. Press tape down firmly on the test patch and pull up sharply, place a wet towel or rag over the test area and allow to stand for 2-3 hours, and repeat the adhesion test. If the coating pulls from the surface in either test, there is an adhesion problem and TUF-TOP SAFE QUARTZ should not be used.

Application:

OVER OLD PAINT - Old coatings must be sound and free firmly adhered. Apply with Hopper gun, plastic trowel, or squeegee. DO NOT USE METAL TROWELS, as they will leave burnish marks on the surface. For most applications, two coats are recommended. Apply first coat, allow t dry ( 2-4 hours depending on weather ) then apply second coat at right angles to the first.

OVER NEW/BARE CONCRETE - Surface must be clean, dry and porous. For most applications, 1 wet coat of PSC primer is recommended to aid in the spreading of SAFE-QUARTZ over large areas. Apply first coat with Hopper gun, trowel, squeegee or texture roller. Allow to dry 2-4 hours. Apply second coat at right angles to the first. When fully cured, a clear acrylic topcoat should be applied to give a gloss, and to aid in cleanability.

Limitations:
  • DO NOT APPLY when air or surface temperatures are below 50 degrees Fahrenheit or are expected to fall there before the coating can dry.
  • DO NOT APPLY when air or surface temperatures exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit or lap marking/poor spreadability may occur.
  • DO NOT APPLY to wet or damp surfaces.
  • DO NOT APPLY when it may rain or if dew may condense on the surface before paint will have a chance to dry.
  • ALLOW FOR SLOW DRYING during high humidity.
  • DO NOT ALLOW TO FREEZE. Store above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. ( 0 C )
  • RESISTANT TO , oil, grease, and most chemicals. Gasoline will soften the coating. If gasoline is spilled, allow it to evaporate, rather than wiping up. The coating will recover/harden as gasoline evaporates.
  • NOT RECOMMENDED FOR EXTERIOR USE., OR IN AREAS THAT RECEIVE FULL SUN. CHALKING MAY RESULT. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR DRIVING SURFACES!
Drying Time:

Normally dries in 24 hours and can be walked upon after drying overnight 75 degrees Fahrenheit. 72 hours are generally required before driving vehicles on.* Maximum cure will be achieved in 5-7 days. Low temperatures and high humidity can extend drying and curing time. Moisture and dew on the surface will halt the curing until it dries off again and should be taken into consideration.
* A CLEAR COAT IS RECOMMENDED
