Features:
  • Water reducible
  • Excellent exterior durability
  • Wears like an enamel
  • Attractive satin sheen
Preparation:

NEW OR UNPAINTED CONCRETE - Make sure concrete is sound and not crumbling. Dirt, oil, grease, mold, mildew and all other contaminants must be removed from the surface and pores of the concrete to insure that the paint has good contact with the concrete. Contaminants may be removed with TSP , a strong detergent, or degreaser. Rinse thoroughly. Kill all algae or mildew with bleach and rinse thoroughly. It is advisable to pressure wash the surface to insure complete removal of contaminants. Slick or smooth trowelled surfaces must be acid etched with a 10% muriatic solution until the pores of the concrete open and a sandpaper like ( 220 grit minimum ) texture is achieved. All acid must be thoroughly removed before application. New polymer pool decks do not require acid etching.

OVER OLD PAINT - Tuf-Top Deck Coating may be applied over most acrylic paints if they are firmly bonded to the surface. Glossy surfaces should be dulled with sandpaper to provide a "tooth" for the coating to adhere to. Make sure the surface is free from any contaminants ( follow instructions for bare concrete ). DO NOT ACID ETCH OLD COATINGS. *May not adhere satisfactorily to some epoxies, polyurethanes, and silicate sealers. If uncertain, apply a test patch of deck coat and check adhesion with duct tape after 2-3 days. Press tape down firmly on test patch and pull up sharply. If the paint peels from the surface, there is an adhesion problem and DECK COAT should not be used.

Application:

DO NOT APPLY IF AIR/SURFACE TEMPERATURE IS 60 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT OR BELOW! ( NEW OR UNPAINTED CONCRETE ): Apply with 3/8 -1/2 inch roller, brush, or airless sprayer. TUF-TOP DECK COAT is a two coat process. The first coat should be thinned with 1 pint of water per gallon to aid in penetration. Apply first coat, allow to dry, ( 30 mins to 2 hrs. depending on weather ) and apply second coat full strength. Allow new concrete to cure for 2-4 months before painting, however, if first primed with PSC it may be painted in as little as 2-4 weeks.

OVER OLD PAINT - Apply with roller, brush , or airless sprayer. Two coats are recommended. Apply first coat at full strength, allow to dry ( 2-4 hrs. depending on weather ) then apply second coat.

CAUTION : THIS IS A SMOOTH FINISH PAINT AND WILL GET SLICK WHEN WET. IF THE SURFACE HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN TREATED TO REDUCE SLIP HAZARDS, TUF-TOP RHINO HIDE SKID RESISTANT ADDITIVE, SAND OR OTHER MATERIAL SHOULD BE ADDED TO THIS PRODUCT BEFORE OR DURING APPLICATION TO REDUCE THIS CONDITION. IT IS THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE APPLICATOR OR OWNER TO DETERMINE THE SUITABILITY OF THIS PRODUCT IN AREAS OF PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC.

Limitations:
  • DO NOT APPLY when air or surface temperatures exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit or lap marking may occur.
  • DO NOT APPLY when air or surface temperatures are below 60 degrees Fahrenheit ( 10 C ) or are expected to fall there before the coating can dry.
  • DO NOT APPLY to wet or damp surfaces.
  • DO NOT APPLY when it may rain or dew may condense on the surface before the paint will have a chance to dry.
  • ALLOW for slow drying during high humidity or cooler temperatures.
  • DO NOT ALLOW TO FREEZE. Store above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. ( 0 C ).
  • Coating is resistant to oil, grease and most household and dilute pool chemicals, but gasoline will soften the film. If gasoline is spilled on the surface, allow it to evaporate, DO NOT WIPE UP! After gasoline has evaporated the coating will recover and harden
  • DO NOT use on surfaces with a pH greater than 10.
  • NOT FOR USE ON STAMPED CONCRETE!
Drying Time:

Normally dries in 2-4 hours and can be walked on after 2-4 hours drying at 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Low temperatures and high humidity can extend drying and curing time. Moisture and dew on the surface will halt the curing process until the the surface dries . This may affect the durability of the final coating and should be taken into consideration .
