Hold Out Mildew Inhibitor

ALL PURPOSE MILDEW INHIBITOR & WATER REPELLENT

A test patch is recommended

TUF-TOP HOLD-OUT is a water based liquid that will render water repellency to most concrete and masonry. Hold-Out penetrates and chemically reacts on and below the surface to form a "breathable" barrier that will retard moister intrusion, and inhibit mildew, mold and algae formation without the use of toxic biocides. Hold-Out will also provide moderate resistance to oil and grease. Other water repellents either form an acrylic film or fill up the pores of the substrate with a wax material that sun and weather will break down and wash away.

OTZ/OTC Compliant Concrete Sealer

HOLD-OUT is Best Used for

  • Concrete block and masonry
    Concrete and Masonry
  • Horizontal and vertical surfaces
    Mortar
  •
  • Condominium and apartment walkways
    Stone

Special Properties:

Inhibits mildew, algae, and water penetration. -Other water repellents are just that, water repellents. Hold-Out repels both water and biogrowth on concrete, stone and masonry. Chemically reacts and cross-links with concrete, stucco, pavers, roof tiles, and stone products to form a waterproof substrate. Will not weather and wash away as other products do. The water beading effect will dissipate the wear, but the integrity and repellent properties will remain. Retards mold and mildew formation on roof tiles, concrete walks and driveways. Keeps walks and driveway cleaner, longer. Because water cannot penetrate into the concrete, dissolved dirt and other materials cannot penetrate into the pores of the concrete. Wind and will will then wax the dirt off because it has not been able to latch to the surface. Helps to keep surfaces stain free. Because nothing can penetrate deep into the substrate, stains can be easily and thoroughly cleaned.

Preparation:

For new concrete, masonry, mortar, bricks, etc., no special preparation is necessary, other than making sure than the surface is bare and not painted or sealed, and is free from dirt, mildew, algae, waxes, mold release chemicals, or efflorescence that may inhibit the penetration of HOld-Out. Pressure washing will provide the best results. For older surfaces they bust be free from dirt, oil, grease, efflorescence, and mildew. Scrub with detergent or treat with bleach as needed and rinse thoroughly Again, pressure washing will yield the best results. Please note that hold out may actually link to and pull some oils, grease and other contaminants out of concrete shortly after application. If this occurs, you may not get your desired waterproofing properties and will need to apply a second coat.

Application:
  • Apply one thorough, soaking coat. For even longer lasting results, apply two coats wet on wet. Please note that additional coats must be wet on wet.
  • Apply with garden had-pump type sprayer, roller, or brush.
  • Apply only when air and surface temperature are between 40 and 100 Deg. F
  • On vertical surfaces, apply from bottom up.
  • On horizontal surfaces, take care not to cause puddling by over-application. Roll out any puddled areas remaining after 1-2 minutes
Limitations:
  • DO NOT APPLY when air or surface temperatures are below 40 degrees F. or are expected to fall there before coating can dry.
  • DO NOT APPLY to a wet surface.
  • DO NOT APPLY when it may rain before Hold-Out will have a chance to dry.
  • Do not allow to freeze.
  • Do not allow contact with glass, aluminum, or glazed tile - wipe off immediately with damp cloth or etching may occur.
  • Do not apply to painted or sealed surfaces, ceramic tile, or any other polished, non porous surface.
  • Don not apply with conventional or airless spray, do not atomize.
  • Hold-Out will not withstand Hydrostatic pressure, and is a breathable system. Do not use in areas that retain or hold water.
Drying Time:

Normally dries in 2-4 hours and cures between 24-72 hours, depending upon application, substrate and environmental conditions. Low temperatures and high humidity can extend drying and curing times.
