VOC/OTC COMPLIANT CONCRETE SEALER 14-XX

TUF-TOP VOC/OTC WATER REPELLENT SEALER is a very durable, concentrated, deep penetrating solvent-based Water Repellent Sealer for use on concrete driveways, garage floors and walls, walkways, pool decks, patios, vertical block, split face block, masonry walls and any other concrete or masonry surface that needs protection and beautification. The very unique formulation of TUF-TOP Sealer allows for deep penetration into concrete providing lasting color as well as protection. Old, stained, unsightly areas are transformed into attractive surfaces with TUF-TOP Sealer. TUF-TOP Sealer is formulated to be resistant to ultraviolet rays, oil, grease, driving rains, and pick up from hot tires. The water repellent qualities will help prevent spalling and cracking and inhibit mold and mildew growth.

CAUTION: BE AWARE THAT SOME STAINED PEDESTRIAN SURFACES MAY BECOME SLIPPERY WHEN WET. IF THIS STAIN BUILDS ON A HORIZONTAL OR SLOPED SURFACE, OR IS APPLIED OVER OILS PAINT OR STAIN, THIS COATING MAY GET "SLICK" WHEN WET. IF THE SURFACE HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN TREATED TO REDUCE SLIP HAZARDS, SAND OR OTHER GRITTY MATERIAL MY BE ADDED TO THIS PRODUCT BEFORE OR DURING APPLICATION TO REDUCE THIS CONDITION. IT IS THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE APPLICATOR OR OWNER TO DETERMINE THE SUITABILITY AND SAFETY OF APPLYING THIS PRODUCTION AREAS OF PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC.

Usage Information

Preparation:

OVER NEW OR UNPAINTED CONCRETE - All surfaces to be sealed must be free of contaminants ( DIRT, DUST, GREASE, OIL, MOLD, MILDEW ) before application. This insures the pores of the concrete have good contact with the sealer. Oil and grease should be removed with a detergent solution of TSP and water. All mold and mildew must be first killed with bleach and rinsed thoroughly. Best results will be obtained with Pressure Cleaning.

OVER NEW OR BARE CONCRETE - All new or bare concrete should be first acid etched with muriatic acid ( 1 part acid to 2 parts water ) and thoroughly rinsed with high pressure water. Allow acid solution to react for 20-30 minutes. DO NOT ALLOW TO DRY. Smooth trowelled, hard or dense concrete should be etched until a 120 - 220 grit sandpaper-like feel is obtained. Repeat etching until this texture is achieved. Etching opens up the pores of the concrete to allow for better penetration. Concrete should be pressure washed or thoroughly rinsed and scrubbed with water to remove all residue from the etching process. Allow to dry completely ( minimum of 24 hours ) before sealing.

Application:

Sealer should be reduced 1:1 with Tuf-Top 14-401 reducer for all coats. DO NOT USE AS SUPPLIED. Apply with a 3/8 inch nap, phenolic core, shed resistant roller, spray or brush. Two coats are recommended. Extremely porous surfaces may need additional; coats. Stir contents thoroughly before and during application to assure even mixture of pigments and resins. Multiple containers, or lot numbers, of tinted sealer should be " boxed/mixed" together prior to application to insure color consistency. Apply at a rate of 100-250 square feet per gallon per coat, depending on the profile and porosity of the surface. Reduce the sealer 1:1 with Tuf-Top 14-401 reducer for all coats. Apply the first coat generously. Work the sealer into the surface to reduce the formation of penetration bubbles. Work in small areas to , being careful to keep a wet edge and minimize overlapping. Start and stop at logical break points, like expansion joints, cracks, etc. to minimize lap marking. Allow to dry for 24 hours under favorable conditions before re-coating.

Limitations:

  • DO NOT APPLY when air or surface temperatures exceed 90 degrees F. or lap marking/ bubbling may occur.
  • DO NOT APPLY to wet or damp concrete. Excessive moisture in the concrete will inhibit the penetration of the stain and cause improper curing. Flaking or lifting of the stain may later occur
  • DO NOT APPLY when it may rain or if dew may condense on the surface before paint will have a chance to dry.
  • ALLOW for extra drying during cold weather and high humidity.
  • Although resistant to oil, grease, and most household chemicals, the coating will be softened by gasoline. If gasoline is spilled on the surface DO NOT WIPE UP. Allow the gasoline to evaporate off the surface, as this occurs the coating should recover and harden. Also note that muriatic acid and concentrated bleach may cause some discoloration and should therefore be rinsed off immediately.
  • DO NOT APPLY to stamped concrete. Stamped concrete is usually put down with form oils, hardeners, silicate sealers, waxes, polyurethane clears and stains. All or any of these will cause adhesion problems. A test patch and adhesion test are recommended. Follow instructions for previously coated surface.
  • NOT FOR USE below grade or in areas subjected to hydrostatic pressure.

Drying Time:

Dry to touch : 30 minutes Re-coat and light foot traffic : 24 hours Vehicles : 72 hours Full Cure : 5-7 days These dry times are for 75 Fahrenheit temperatures and medium humidity. Low temperatures will extend the drying and curing time. Moisture and dew on the surface will stop the curing process until the surface dries again.
