Usage Information

Preparation:

NEW OR UNPAINTED CONCRETE - Make sure concrete is sound and not crumbling. All surfaces to be painted must be free of contaminants including but not limited to : dirt, oil, grease, mold and mildew, curing compounds and sealers . These contaminants must be removed form the surface and pores of the concrete to insure the stain has good contact with the substrate. Oil and grease should be scrubbed clean with detergent or trisodium phosphate diluted in water. Mildew and mold should be killed with bleach. Best results will be obtained with additional pressure cleaning. New or bare concrete should be etched with muriatic acid /water ( 1:2 ). Allow acid solution to react for 15-20 minutes on the surface. Do not allow the solution to dry out. Smooth trowelled concrete must be etched until a 120-220 grit sandpaper like feel is obtained. Etching opens up the pores of the concrete to allow penetration of the stain. Concrete should be thoroughly pressure washed/scrubbed, rinsed, and allowed to dry completely ( 24 hrs minimum ) before staining.

NOTE: ALL NEW CONCRETE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO CURE FOR 45 DAYS PRIOR TO APPLYING STAIN.

Application:

Apply with roller, spray, or brush. . Stir contents thoroughly to insure an even mixture of pigments and resins. Apply at a rate 100 - 250 square feet per gallon depending on the profile\ and porosity of the surface. WORK THE COATING INTO THE SURFACE TO PREVENT PENETRATION BUBBLING. Two coats are recommended for satisfactory results. May be recoated in 12 hours under good drying conditions.

Limitations:

  • NOT NEOTZ, CALIFORNIA, OR ARIZONA COMPLIANT
  • Do not apply when air or surface temperatures exceed 90F or lap marking/bubbling may occur
  • Do not apply to wet or damp concrete. Excessive moisture in concrete will inhibit the penetration of the stain and cause improper curing. Flaking or lifting of the stain may occur later.
  • Do not apply when it may rain or if dew may condense on the surface before the paint has proper time to dry.
  • Allow for slow drying during cold weather and high humidity.
  • Although resistant to oil, grease and most household chemicals, TUF-TOP STAIN will soften if exposed to gasoline. If gasoline is spilled on the surface allow it to evaporate rather than wiping it up. This will allow the coating to recover and harden. Also note that muriatic acid and concentrated bleach may cause some discoloration. It is recommended these substances be rinsed off immediately.
  • DO NOT APPLY OVER STAMPED CONCRETE! STAMPED CONCRETE IS USUALLY PUT DOWN WITH FORM OILS, HARDENERS, SILICATE SEALERS, WAXES, POLYURETHANE CLEARS AND STAINS. ALL OR ANY OF THESE WILL CAUSE ADHESION PROBLEMS.
  • Not for use below grade or in areas subjected to hydrostatic pressure.

Drying Time:

DRY TO TOUCH: 30 MINUTES RECOAT AND LIGHT TRAFFIC : 12 HOURS VEHICLES: 72 HOURS These dry times are for 75 degree temperatures and medium humidities. Low temperatures will extend drying and curing time. Moisture and dew on the surface will stop the curing the surface dries again.
